NetWorth Update December 2021 - End of the year, Bonne 2022!

Last month of the year, last occasion to reach any goals preset on that far away January 2021.

December should have been a cheap month.
Why? I had 2 on-call shifts, which usually keep me from being able to leave on the weekend for hiking trips, or any activities such as theatre, cinema or concerts.
But the toughest reason was due to 10 days of COVID quarantine. I woke up one day feeling horrible, pretty similar to the 2nd dose symptoms, times ten. High fever, muscle pains, running nose, trouble breathing, and much more.
And what's better than staying home 10 days, cooking the whole time and not doing any social activities at all for a FIRE person?
2 weeks out of it, I am unfortunately having a sort of long covid, but it's slowly getting better. I still have a weak sense of smell or taste, weak and painful lungs, I am out of breath after walking few hundreds meter, even though I'm a young sporty person.

Though, it came out to be a normal spending month, damn it!
Few medicine we had to buy for covid boosted a little bit the monthly expenses, and in addition we bought some 18th century Japanese prints (yup, we are sort of art collector).

But the year happily ended celebrating it with my gf and her family and then with some friends. Just a lovely fresh start for 2022.

Not let's see the numbers!

Income CHF 9'154  (CHF +1116 vs November)
1020 CHF of Divideeeends.

After being a client of Helsana for 5 years, I just discovered their Helsana+ application, where you can accumulated points by doing sports (walking everyday, yoga, jogging), answering quiz, reading articles and much more.
You can redeem this point for either coupons or money, and of course I rather have cash, than being incentivised to spend more money with a coupon. And how much money did I get from mostly walking everyday to/back from work or during the weekend? a lovely amount of 200 chf.
Which is enough to cover my complementary insurance. Shame I didn't discover this program before.
For whoever is subscribed with Helsana (or plan to), you can use the following referral code in order to gain additional points to install your Helsana+ application.
[ref code zTp8B8]

And let's finally see for this special edition some additional graphs.
How much did I earn this year, and what were the source of the various income?

In 2021 I had a total income of more or less 112'700 CHF.
I say more or less due to the fact that my first few months were taxed on the income (permit B) and therefor I've already paid around 5400 CHF of tax out of the total amount that I will have to pay.
  • Salary (before tax, after contributions) => 103'200 CHF
  • On-call shifts => 2'056 CHF
  • Dividends (still to get the taxed part back) => 2'556 CHF
  • Others (various refunds/redeem) => 4'885 CHF

Expenses CHF 2'264 (CHF -160 vs November)
As said above, it could have been a cheaper month... but it's still amazing, given the fact that more than half to if it's basic needed things (rent, health insurance etc)

  • HousingCHF 843.75 - The second cheapest of the year. Not much grocery due to quarantine and no bills to pay.
  • Health: CHF 434.55 - Covid medicines made the difference
  • Personal: CHF 986
  • Transport: 0
  • Holiday: 0 - it's actually the first time of the year where I didn't move out of the city at all.
But we are here for the YTD numbers! we want to know!
  • HousingCHF 17'800
  • Health: CHF 4'685
  • Personal: CHF 7'416
  • Transport: CHF 587
  • Holiday: CHF 2'030
    • Total: CHF 32'530
Next year it should be better!
I've switched to a new health insurance. It's technically 30chf more expensive than my current Assura one, but my job pays a contribution of 70chf, therefor I will start saving 480chf per year of health insurance.
They also pay my bus pass, which is an other 500chf saved.
Moving with my gf had a beginning cost, also due to the little legal case we had opened with the Regie to try to decrease the pumped rent price.
No more furniture to buy and no more legal cases should make us spend 7'500 chf less.

Will this be true? Will I be able to end 2022 with a Yearly spending of 25k? We will see.

Saving Rate 75.29% (+5.42% vs November)
We made it! 5 months in a row of SR above 70% yuppy-yuuuuh.
Though, due to that horrible March when I moved with my gf... no wait, it sounds horrible like this!  I mean that due to the expense we had to face that month, with a horrible SR of 23%, even if I had 7 months above 70%, and 3 around 60%, I've still ended the year with an average of 67%.

Net Worth CHF 348'222 (CHF +7'959 vs November)
Really disappointed... as we will see below, for the crypto was a really horrible month... it kind of countered my stock's one.
But what makes me sad it's that I didn't reach the 350k target, even though I was not even thinking to reach 300k, as I've started the year at 210k

And to wrap it up, I end 2021 reaching 30.49% of my FIRE journey.

Stocks Investing CHF 234’153 (CHF +6'030 vs November)
The market has been generous and tried its best to help me to the 350k

Crypto Investing CHF 20'825 (CHF -5'560 vs November)
You didn't. Not a single crypto had a positive return this month

With not too much to add to stocks/crypto I end up this post, and this year and wish everybody an amazing and frugal 2022!

NetWorth Update November 2021 - To the moon part 2

To the mooooon agaaaain.
My CRO cash back credit card arrived and my first few crypto cashback exploded along the initial stacked 3'380 EUR.
I've seen seem even reaching 18'000 EUR but eventually ended November down to 13'622 EUR.
ps: I now have 100% cashback on Netflix and Spotify (finally no more German ads)

Work wise, I've switched my 2 Pillar contribution plan from 5,5% to 7% as my Fund offers higher return than the mandatory basic 1% (in the past it even reached 8% mine), so I've opted to pay less taxes and still see my money well invested.

Back to my personal life (not financial one) I had a lovely weekend away with my girlfriend in the lovely town of Baden, famous for its thermal bath, and I must say it was such an amazing charming one.
We treated ourself with some nice meal, a morning at the SPA, some hot-wine at the Christmas market and even went to the casino (with the 10chf coupon offered by our Hotel) and did a crazy all-in 10chf bet on the roulette with a 66% winning chance... and they are gone.

Income CHF 8'048.30  (CHF -740.61 vs October)
Boring month. The absolute basic salary and a Helsana refund of 104.30 CHF

Expenses CHF 2'405.85 (CHF -1'031.36 vs October)
Ouch...  but glad it's more due to travel at least

  • HousingCHF 1'160.75 - usual rent + grocery + an other little Ikea trip + 223.50 chf of insurance for the house
  • Health: CHF 357.05
  • Personal: CHF 629.65 - Bought some clothes, went to bars/restaurants + hobbies
  • Transport: 0
  • Holiday: CHF 258.40 - Baden + I've bought my first plane's ticket (after more than 2 years!) to visit some friends in Copenaghen.
Saving Rate 70.11% (-5.83% vs October)
4 months in a row, cmon don't give up! let me finish the year with 5 in a row!

Net Worth CHF 340'263.19 (CHF +17'622.51 vs October)
Thanks once again crypto... and an other month of negative market.
Nope, I still don't change mind.
I am wondering if I can reach the end of the year above 350K. Having started the year at 210K, that would be insane!

I've reached 29.64% of FI which bring my FU date to 01/11/2025, ohllala!

Stocks Investing CHF 228’123.88 (CHF -1'216.81 vs October)
Other 3k invested in VT and the market once again pretty stable towards the negative direction

Crypto Investing CHF 26'385.08(CHF +8'400.08 vs October)
Shibu eventually dropped even more, down to 5'020.16 USD while CRO ended the month at 13'621.99 EUR.
The rest of the crypto also performed bad along with the stocks and CHSB has been in negative ever since.

NetWorth Update October 2021 - To the Moon!

October has been a nice first attempt into crypto.
I've seen Shibu going up from my initial 800 CHF investment, up to more than 9'000 CHF.
Though I didn't sell, as 9k don't really change my life, and even if I will never become millionaire with SHIb, I still can just let them sit there for the next x year and either make waaaaay more money or lose 800 CHF.
Indeed they eventually ended the month down to 6'887.13 CHF and I am completely fine with it.

Income CHF 8'788.91 (CHF +341.87 vs September)
- Assura gave a 100 CHF refund to all their clients
- My former Regie refunded me 283.50 CHF of heating/water fees
- 154.86 CHF of dividends

Expenses CHF 2'115.10 (CHF +15.32 vs September)
Amazingly, just 15 chf difference from the previous month

  • HousingCHF 909.20 - rent + grocery + a little Ikea trip
  • Health: CHF 430.20 - Dentist checkup for cavities. all good!
  • Personal: CHF 778.90 - damn you phone!
  • Transport: 24.70 - my usual little hiking trip
  • Holiday0
Saving Rate 75.93% (+1.02% vs September)
3 months in a row above 70%, keep it going baby!

Net Worth CHF 322'640.68 (CHF +16'837.06 vs September)
Thanks crypto, I will still talk shit about you though.
The market also had a good performance too even though lower return than his evil brother above (you can see who is my favourite)

Stocks Investing CHF 229’340.70 (CHF +6'498.41 vs September)
You remember the 3k of last month? I've invested them in VT who also had some good performances.

Crypto Investing CHF 20'005.45 (CHF +7'617.50 vs September)
Ok, Ok, this time it's actually a real increase
But who are the heroes?
- SHIB:  USD 6'887.13 ( +6'088.34)
- CRO: CHF 4'039.51 (+653.4)
- BTC: CHF 2'605.68 (+612.81)
- ETH: CHF 1'909.29 (+461)

NetWorth Update September 2021 - First day of work!

My first day of work! in the same company.
As previously said, I have simply been hired internally after having been an external consultant contractor.

Of course I now have more responsibilities, and therefore this could translate into some salary increase in the coming years, even though from my understanding the company doesn't really do this, but instead has a concept of "interest" which is basically a bonus according to their annual performances.

September was an expensive month as I've broke my arm (not completely) and my phone's screen. The second one was somehow more painful...

I've also decided to use 10k as fun money and flushed them in the toilet (crypto).
I've bought 700chf of SHIBU (to the moooooon), and opened a Crypto.com account as well a SwissBorg one.

Income CHF 8'370.72 (CHF -3'127.06 vs August)
Hello lower salary... but ok, to be fair, no other month will be able to compete with August.
Some help from my dividends who bring an extra 426.72 CHF to the table.

Expenses CHF 2'099.78 (CHF +237.49 vs August)
The month was pretty much the same as August, which differed just by my biannual dentist visit, and for my the phone's repair (thanks God the accident insurance took care of the arm)

  • HousingCHF 848.32 - rent + grocery
  • Health: CHF 446.05 - Dentist
  • Personal: CHF 778.90 - damn you phone!
  • Transport: 26.5 CHF - my usual little hiking trip
  • Holiday0
Saving Rate 74.92% (-8.89% vs August)
Keeping it above 70%, what else can I say? I am just happy about those results.

Net Worth CHF 311'454.49 (CHF +5'949.75 vs August)
A pretty shitty month for the market which performed negative.

Stocks Investing CHF 222’842.29 (CHF -1'135.39 vs August)
I've moved  3'000 CHF to IB but forgot to invest them...oops. But given the market performances, that was a lucky mistake.

Crypto Investing CHF 12'387.94 (CHF +11'908.15 vs August)
Ok lets be clear, I didn't gain 12k in stock. I've simply flushed in the toilet the famous 10k:

- 800 CHF into SHIB
- 2000 CHF stacked into CHSB
- 1992.87 CHF in BTC
- 2600 CHF in ETH
- 3380 CHF stacked into CRO (green credit card)

NetWorth Update August 2021 - Correcting the Numbers

I haven't posted for the last 4 months for reasons, therefore I release the last updates all together

August has been a pretty stable flat month in terms of events.
We have used all our holidays, and therefor the only big thing happened was to realise that I had some miscalculation in my NW due to some wrong currency exchange and to my 2Pillar being actually slightly higher than what I thought.

I have also decided to remove the expected tax from my income calculation, as perhaps I should just add it to the 'end of the year Real NW expected'.
As previously said, this was due to the habit to always had my salary taxed at the source as I had a permit B until May.
But this didn't align well with my NW that was still growing every month by the gross amount, and then eventually drop by 20k out of the blue in a month where the expenses would be the usual 2-3K.

Income CHF 11'497.78 (CHF +2'018.63 vs July)
My last "higher" salary, as from next month I will earn 10k less per year, due to my new contract... congrats to me.
The salary looks a bit higher due to the fact that is my gross salary still to be taxed, as explained above, in addition to 1'964 CHF for my Tax Refund from 2020.

Expenses CHF 1'862.29 (CHF -1'464.77 vs July)
It's easy to be frugal when you have no holidays, and all activities can be done for free outside (Concerts, festivals, Open-air cinemas, hiking, biking etc)

  • HousingCHF 904.70 - rent + grocery
  • Health: CHF 357.75
  • Personal: CHF 484.78 - I mainly drinks/meals outside
  • Transport: 61 CHF - little hike trip
  • HolidayCHF 54.76 - We were still in Italy the first 2 days of August technically!
Saving Rate 83.30% (+18.90% vs July)
Between have been one of the cheapest month in addition to the highest Income, this easily be the highest SR of the year.

Net Worth CHF 305'504.74 (CHF +16'346.60 vs July)
Salary + an actual increase of stock value by 5k. Just a simple and beautiful month!
Not surprised, I've once again had some wrong formulas in my sheet, therefore my new FI progression is 25.95%
Better re-run all the formulas the day I reach the FU number, in case a wrong one is still hidden somewhere 😅

Stocks Investing CHF 223’977.67 (CHF +9'572.32 vs July)
I've bought 5'000 CHF of VT and the USDCHF appreciated

Crypto Investing CHF 479.81 (CHF +144.13 vs July)
I feel ashamed.
I don't really believe in crypto and I feel ecologically guilty to invest in something which feels just speculation, and has no real impact in the industry.
But I guess the devil on my right shoulder rather feel guilty and richer...
Anyway I've invested so far just a tiny bit in ETH, ADA and XLM

NetWorth Update July 2021 - Holidays!

Income CHF 7'765.56 (CHF -2'043.60 vs June)
Of course, no surprises.
May was a "special" month, with a higher income due to some refunds. This months was a normal month with the expected salary

Expenses CHF 3'327.06 (CHF +382.20 vs June)
Not happy to see once again an expensive month... but I can explain everything!
I was on holiday with my girlfriend for 3 weeks and half, nearly the whole month of July.
During which we had few dine out, celebrated my birthday, we had 3 day trips and we had a 5 days trip to Naples.
The most expensive parts, perhaps 1/4 of the travel expenses were due to the trains which couldn't really be avoided in any other way.

But I have to say that for a month of holiday, having such a low expense should be a reason to celebrate instead. And I have hidden something... the expense would have been 806 CHF lower, therefor as a normal month in Switzerland, if it wasn't for my latest photo camera purchase.

Just before leaving for holiday, both my 2 cameras decided to die. One was badly behaving since long time, but the second one was kind of unexpected. And with only 3 days to leave, and no cameras, I purchased online a new one with 2 days shipping.

Murphy's law, after the camera arrived, of course, one camera came back alive... So I told myself that I should give it a second chance, and if it still works, I can send back the new one. And indeed it perfectly worked! So once back to Switzerland I would return it.

spoiler alert: I didn't, and I have kept it. guilty.

  • HousingAs we were out all the time, with only a tiny grocery at the beginning of July, we basically had only the rent to pay. CHF 727.75
  • Health: CHF 377.75 and a refund of 105 CHF by Helsana for my dentist's checkup
  • Personal: 1'207.89 yup... photocamera + some clothes and a gift for my mum
  • Transport: 42 CHF for a little escape trip with my gf to Neuchatel, for the NIFFF
  • HolidayCHF 947.95 - all in all the month of holiday was as not as bad. I could have easily spent this money simply by staying in Switzerland, with grocery, weekend trip and entertainment
Stocks Investing CHF 214’405.35 (CHF +2’776.18  vs June)
Stable month!

Saving Rate 57.16% (-12.82% vs June)
The difference is due to the slightly higher expense this month and the normal income in contrast with the higher income of June

Net Worth CHF 285’066.82 (CHF +2'076.52 vs June)
I feel I have lost some numbers... I should have saved around 4k, and it only went up by 2k.
I'll double check, anyway, NW increase by 0.73%.
Due to the higher monthly expense, I am pushed back to a  FI of 20.63%
